ABOUT THE BRAND //
Recycled material - Vegetable Tanning - Sustainable Practices
From its artisan roots of a two-man workshop to a company of 3000 spread all over the world, Hidesign has stayed true to its strong heritage of craftsmanship and innovative design. Hidesign stands out for the sensuous naturalness of its high-quality leathers and the smooth soft glow of its solid brass fittings in the leather goods it handcrafts.
Hidesign established its first custom-designed atelier in Pondicherry, India in 1990. Hidesign is focused on the #greenstory
The Green story is an environmental project of Hidesign in collaboration with Joss Brooks. For this project, Hidesign is working with Joss to expand the forests near their atelier and conserve indigenous forests.
Hidesign shares its love for nature and this is communicated through their packaging - paper and cloth bags. Hidesign uses only vegetable extracts for tanning as far as possible. All wastewater from the tannery is filtered using Reverse Osmosis before it is let out. All wastewater in the atelier goes through a natural process of filtration in the water bodies built as a part of the landscaping and is reused.
As a core value, all waste material is separated and reused or sold for reuse. Hidesign does not burn anything. The concern for ecology is an ongoing search for better healthier ways to live and work.
The premises where Hidesign work also reflects their brand values – the atelier is constructed from bricks made of local earth and fired in kilns that were made on the premises, by Ray Meeker, a well-known low-cost ecological building expert.
